Audi completes second investment wave into South Africa’s EV charging network

Over the past two years, Audi has invested around R45 million alongside its partners in cutting-edge charging technologies. In South Africa last year, Audi was a pioneer in the installation of ultra-fast public chargers. Now, as part of its second round of investments in the nation's EV charging infrastructure, Audi has lifted the bar even further by introducing the first DC 200kW charger with solar power backup. Audi has set up 76 fast and ultra-quick EV chargers around South Africa during these two phases. With the most recent instalment of chargers, Audi has now contributed 127 DC and AC charging connectors in total.
In collaboration with Rubicon, Audi South Africa has added 43 more electric vehicle (EV) charging points nationwide. Regardless of model or brand ownership, these chargers can accommodate a total of 57 EV cars at once, at varied capacities. Additionally, the company contributed 70 EV charging connection sites across the country last year, when it was the first to introduce ultra-fast chargers to South Africa with the introduction of the Audi. The largest shopping mall ever erected in a single phase, Mall of Africa, now boasts South Africa's first DC 200kW ultra-fast charger, allowing compatible cars to receive an ultra-fast charge. An e-tron GT's EV battery can be recharged in under 15 minutes*.

One of the largest solar photovoltaic (PV) systems of its sort in the Southern Hemisphere was erected at Mall of Africa, making this installation a progressive step toward sustainable recharging. Four 100kW (DC), eight 60kW (DC), five 25kW (DC), and twenty-five 22kW (AC) fast EV charger installations are included in the remainder of this second phase of infrastructure investment. These installations are made at convenient places across the nation to service all EV consumers. With the first and second phases of the charging infrastructure now operational, GridCars, Rubicon, and Audi have deployed 76 fast and ultra-fast EV chargers around South Africa, accounting for about 28% of the nation's public charging stations.
Customers of other EV brands as well as those who own Audi e-trons will find charging to be even more convenient, easy, and accessible thanks to the partnership between Audi, GridCars, and Rubicon.

The newly added 43 chargers are spread across the provinces as follows:

All 76 Audi-branded charging stations are part of the charging network that can be accessed here: https://www.chargestations.co.za/oemportal/audi/
