Many people have caught sight of the updated E-Class, including its new bumper, redesigned grille and LED headlamps. With the AMG line kit, optional 18-inch 5-Twin spoke alloy wheels and a unique lattice design, our test unit looked good against the metal gray paint. Overall, the E220D has a sophisticated and sporty exterior that will complement anybody.

A new steering wheel and MBUX infotainment software, as well as a touchpad control for the infotainment system, are among the most important interior improvements. Although the wheel looks great, we found the new TouchPad to be uncomfortable and difficult to use. With the Twin 12.3 Inch displays in a long horizontal plate located above the dashboard, the MBUX infotainment system is just great. Thanks to its excellent resolution and features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, and a large number of customization options, it is certainly one of the best systems available.

Those who love their music can also option the E220d with the Burmeister sound system which we loved during our tenure.

This interior was one of the most memorable interiors we've ever seen. Our test unit had the AMG Line Inn Package option along with saddle brown leather with black contrasting trim, and silver interior fittings and from a space prospect, the E-Class offers an impressive 540-litre boot and a truly impressive amount of occupant space (knee room, and headroom).

While certainly not the most exciting powertrain in the E-class range, the 2.0-litre Turbo Diesel E220D offers a gear mix of power and efficiency. The engine generates 143 kW and 400 nm of torque and is coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. The performance is certainly sufficient, with the E220d sprinting from a standstill to 100 km in about 7.3 seconds before reaching a maximum speed of 250 km/hour.

The updated Mercedes Benz E220d AMG Line rides smoothly.

The E220D is still successful to sail on the road, it offers an extraordinary amount of sophistication and noise cancellation. It does not lack in the fuel efficiency department as our overall fuel consumption was 5.6L/100km, and this was a mixture of both city and highway driving. In simple terms, we didn’t 1200kms on a single tank.

The noise cancellation and the amount of refinement offers a pleasant and executive drive, soaking in the road imperfections brilliantly. In our humble opinion, we think that this is the E-Class to have as a daily driver.
