Exciting New Ford Everest Wildtrak now in Mzansi

The all-new Ford Everest Wildtrak now in South Africa.
The all-new Ford Everest Wildtrak is now in South Africa.

The debut of Ford's iconic Wildtrak option on the Everest sits below the sumptuous Everest Platinum but has the same 184kW 3.0L V6 turbodiesel engine and permanent four-wheel drive system as the range-topping model. It is complemented by the addition of a 4x2 Everest Sport and the launch of the XLT series in 4x2 and 4x4 as the entry point to the Next-Gen Everest line-up, all of which utilise the famed 154kW 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel engine.

The Next-Gen Everest Wildtrak is an exciting new derivative that is more athletic, sportier, and rougher than the basic models, capturing the dynamic flare of the Wildtrak series that has been so popular in the Ranger bakkie over the years.

The sporty design of the Everest Wildtrak is obvious in its distinctive character, which comprises a Wildtrak-specific aggressive front grille with horizontal bars and a robust mesh, all of which is painted in characteristic 'Bolder Grey'. This liquid-like metallic accent colour is also used on the front bumper design, which is unique to this model. It creates a striking contrast to the 'Super Alloy' silver finish of the front bash plate, which contains twin recovery points and hints at the additional underbody protection installed as standard on higher-spec four-wheel drive versions (optional on lower 4x4 variants).

An extra paint colour, Luxe Yellow, is only available on the Everest Wildtrak.

In keeping with its exclusive status, the latest addition to the Everest line-up boasts 'WILDTRAK' raised lettering on the leading edge of the bonnet, finished in the dark grey accent colour that also appears on the mirror caps, rear bumper, and the WILDTRAK and 4x4 scripts on the rear tailgate.

The recognizable C-clamp headlights with their signature LED daytime running lights, complemented by complete LEDs for the headlights, fog lamps, and tail light clusters, accentuate the robust and muscular design motif. The bright-finish side stairs, stand-off roof rails, and privacy glass enhance aesthetic attractiveness, and an extra paint colour, Luxe Yellow, is only available on the Everest Wildtrak.

The Everest Wildtrak comes standard with attractive machine-faced two-tone 20-inch alloy wheels and 255/55 R20 tyres, but customers may upgrade to 18-inch rims and 255/65 R18 all-terrain tyres if they like to go off-road on a regular basis.

The cabin setting is similarly inviting, with the modern and upscale design first seen on the Next-Gen Everest, including the sleek coast-to-coast dashboard and extensive use of soft-touch materials with high-quality finishes everywhere. The interior of the Wildtrak gets a sporty twist thanks to contrasting yellow stitching on the dashboard, door trims, steering wheel, gear lever, and the comfortable yet supportive premium leather seats with the Wildtrak logo on the eight-way power-adjustable front seats. A black roof liner, as well as the twin-panel automated Moon Roof, add to the upscale feel.

The Everest features a high-end full-colour 12-inch touchscreen that operates the latest-generation SYNC 4A infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-speaker sound system, USB-A and USB-C connectivity and charging ports, a wireless charging pad that provides cable-free charging for compatible smartphones, and a built-in 400W/240v inverter.

The Wildtrak has an off-road SYNC screen and a rotary Drive Modes control with six settings: Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul, Slippery, Mud & Ruts, and Sand. As standard, it includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Lane Centering, Blind Spot Monitoring with Trailer Coverage, Cross Traffic Alert, Evasive Steer Assist, Lane Keeping System with Road Edge Detection, Pre-Collision Assist, Reverse Brake Assist, and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

Ford's Active Park Assist 2.0 with complete automated parallel and perpendicular parking, in conjunction with the 360-degree video system that replaces the conventional rear-view camera, is also available as an option on the Everest Wildtrak.

The Everest Wildtrak is powered by Ford's strong yet silky smooth 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine, which is also found in the Platinum variant. It generates 184kW and 600Nm and is paired with the most recent generation of Ford's sophisticated 10-speed automatic gearbox, which employs the unique electronic E-Shifter.

The Everest 3.0L V6 has a permanent four-wheel drive system with an electronically regulated on-demand two-speed electromechanical transfer case (EMTC). This system's default driving mode is 4A (Automatic), which may be utilized both on and off the road since it continually changes the flow of drive between the front and rear axles for improved traction in all road conditions. Depending on the driving circumstances, pick 4H for four-wheel drive high-range to improve grip and control on loose roads, or 4L for steep or rocky trails and deep sand when greater low-speed control is necessary. There's also a 2H option that solely uses the rear wheels
