Geely E2 Lands in South Africa: One of Mzansi’s Most Affordable EVs with 325 km Range

By Jack Dickson

The EV for the rest of us has arrived. But don't let the entry-level price fool you—with a 325 km range, a massive 14.6-inch "Flyme Auto" screen, and an innovative 11-in-1 smart motor, this is a high-tech powerhouse. We break down the 85 kW performance, the "frunk" practicality, and why the E2 might be the car that finally gets Mzansi to go electric.

Geely Auto is officially rewriting the electric vehicle playbook in South Africa with the launch of the E2. Arriving as one of the most affordable fully electric cars in the country, the E2 (known globally as the Geome Xingyuan) brings the massive momentum of being China’s top-selling vehicle in 2025 to local shores. It is a compact hatchback designed to prove that switching to electric doesn’t have to mean sacrificing space, tech, or your life savings.

Exterior: Aerodynamic Style with a Golden Ratio

The Geely E2 features a modern, "liquid-metal" design language defined by the 0.618 Golden Ratio, giving it a visually balanced stance and improved aerodynamic efficiency. The exterior is available in a range of vibrant colors including Comet Gray, Aurora Green, Moon White, Nebula Beige, and Star Silver. The front is dominated by "feather-inspired" LED headlights that can illuminate the road up to 170 meters ahead. Despite its compact footprint, the E2 offers a practical edge with a 70-litre "frunk" (front trunk) under the hood—perfect for charging cables—supplementing the 375-litre rear boot, which expands to a massive 1,320 litres with the seats down.

Interior: Flyme Auto and 36 Storage Solutions

Inside, the E2 punches far above its weight class, offering a "digital cabin" experience powered by the Flyme Auto Smart System. and a crystal gear selector. The dashboard features a massive 14.6-inch HD infotainment touchscreenalongside an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. Geely has maximized every inch of the interior, boasting 36 individual storage solutions throughout the cabin. While the entry-level Aspire features durable fabric seats, the top-spec Apex model adds vegan leather upholstery, 256-color ambient lighting, and a 540-degree "transparent chassis" camera system that allows you to see through the floor of the car on the center screen.

Engine Specifications: The 11-in-1 Intelligent E-Drive

The E2 is powered by an innovative 11-in-1 intelligent electric drive system that integrates the motor, gearbox, and control systems into a single compact unit. Driving the rear wheels, the motor produces 85 kW of power and 150 Nm of torque. This setup allows the E2 to sprint from 0–100 km/h in 11.5 seconds, with a top speed limited to 130 km/h. The 39.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery provides a claimed 325 km range (WLTP). Charging is equally efficient, with 70 kW DC fast charging enabling a 30% to 80% top-up in just 25 minutes, while a full AC charge at home takes approximately 6.5 hours.

Pricing and South African Ownership Value

Geely has positioned the E2 to be the most compelling entry point into the world of EVs in Mzansi. The range starts with the E2 Aspire at R339,900, while the feature-packed E2 Apex is priced at R389,900. To support the transition, Geely Finance customers qualify for a R7,500 charge card and a complimentary home wallbox charger. Ownership is backed by a 4-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty, an 8-year/200,000 km battery warranty, and a 5-year/100,000 km service plan, ensuring long-term peace of mind for first-time EV buyers.
