Mahindra emerges as South Africa’s fastest-growing brand

By far the fastest-growing brand in South Africa is Mahindra. The naamsa car sales data for December, which also included the final industry sales figures for the entire year 2022, indicated this noteworthy accomplishment.

According to the naamsa car sales report, Mahindra has increased their sales volume from 2021 to the present (78%). This is more than five times the market average and is the highest of all the vehicle brands that disclose their sales to naamsa.

According to the naamsa sales report, Mahindra increased its total passenger vehicle market sales by 80% to 4 027 vehicles in 2022 and its light commercial sales (which include its well-liked Pik Up and Bolero ranges) by 77% to 8 885 vehicles.

With such a rapid rate of growth, Mahindra was able to surpass the key 10,000 unit mark for the first time and achieve close to 14,000 in annual sales, with an average monthly sales number of over 1,000 units.

This is also the second time since 2019 that Mahindra has been named the fastest-growing brand in South Africa, and the fourth time in the previous five years that the company has been among the top five fastest-growing brands in the nation. In fact, Mahindra experienced a 23.6% compound annual growth rate during that time.

Additionally, the Mahindra Pik Up was the fastest-growing bakkie brand available, topping the leaderboard for growth for both the single cab market and bakkies as a whole. With 2 079 units finding homes in 2022, the XUV300, the safest vehicle in Africa according to GNCAP testing, was the fastest-growing compact SUV in its market segment**.

The auto sector as a whole had a significantly better year than in 2021. The total number of vehicles sold in the sector increased to 528 963 in 2022. Despite continuous supply shortages in both electronic parts and completely assembled vehicles, this is 13.9% better than the previous year.
