Suzuki Across goes on sale in SA

By JJ Dickson

Suzuki is officially moving up in the world, and they’re taking us along for the ride with the all-new Suzuki Across. As the most advanced SUV to ever wear the Suzuki badge in South Africa, this C-segment contender is designed to handle everything from the trendy urban coffee run to the long-distance family road trip. It enters the market with a sophisticated blend of dashing aesthetics, cutting-edge mild-hybrid technology, and the kind of practical, family-friendly space that has made the brand a local favorite.

An Unforgettable Face for Any Adventure

The design language of the new Across is immediately identifiable by a sweeping silhouette and sculpted body lines that give it a dynamic, "always-in-motion" stance. The authoritative front end makes a massive first impression, featuring perfectly contoured bonnet creases and a pair of narrow LED projector headlamps. These lights are linked by a sleek satin chrome strip that runs the full breadth of the upper grille, sitting just above a large trapezoidal intake and an aluminum-look protective underguard. To keep it looking fresh even after a bit of rough road, Suzuki has added black plastic cladding along the rocker panels and wheel arches.

While the GL model sits on 17-inch dark grey alloy wheels, the range-topping GLX steps things up with striking dual-tone machined alloys. At the back, the Across is defined by a seamless taillamp cluster that stretches across the entire width of the vehicle. This signature look features 19 segmented LEDs that create a mesmerizing light signature at night, complemented by a shark-fin antenna and an integrated rear roof spoiler. Whether you choose a classic shade like Arctic White Pearl or opt for one of the three dual-tone paint finishes available on the GLX, this is an SUV that commands attention.

A Cabin Designed Around You

Step inside and you’ll find a minimalist interior that feels refreshingly modern and clutter-free. Suzuki has focused on putting everything you need right at your fingertips, featuring an elegant three-level dashboard with precision stitching and tactile switchgear. The tech suite is impressive, starting with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Everyday practicality is baked into the DNA of the cabin, offering an illuminated glove box, four cup holders, and 60:40-split folding rear seats. For those who love the great outdoors, there is even a 12V accessory socket in the boot, perfect for powering a portable car fridge or a power station.

The GLX trim takes luxury even further, upgrading the cabin with synthetic leather upholstery featuring copper stitching and eight-way power-adjustable, ventilated front seats. It also adds a high-end Harman Infinity sound system, a 360-degree view camera, and a stunning panoramic glass sunroof. Safety hasn't been overlooked either; while the GL offers six airbags and essential stability controls, the GLX introduces a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane keep assist.

Efficiency and Value

Powering the range is Suzuki’s dependable 1.5-liter K15C engine paired with progressive mild-hybrid technology. This system works continuously to assist the petrol engine, recovering kinetic energy during deceleration to help reduce fuel consumption to a combined average of just 5.3 l/100 km. It’s a smart, efficient setup that provides responsive performance without the heavy fuel bill.

Pricing for this new flagship starts at R349,900 for the Across 1.5 Mild-hybrid GL manual, moving up to R372,900 for the automatic version. The top-tier GLX 6AT is available from R464,900. To give you extra peace of mind, every model is sold with a 4 year/60,000km service plan and a 5 year/200,000km promotional warranty. The Suzuki Across isn't just a step up for the brand—it’s a serious challenge to the rest of the C-SUV market.
