Tata Tiago Launches in South Africa

A Hatchback Built for the City

Tata Motors has launched the all-new Tiago in South Africa — a hatchback designed to blend affordability, style, and safety in one compact package

Starting at R184,900, the Tiago is aimed at first-time buyers, young professionals, and families looking for an entry-level car that doesn’t compromise on modern features.

Safety First

Safety is central to the Tiago’s appeal. With a 4-star Global NCAP rating (2020), it is one of the safest cars in its class. Standard safety equipment includes:

  • Dual airbags

  • ABS with EBD

  • Electronic Stability Program

  • Hill Hold Control

  • HD reverse parking camera

This makes the Tiago an especially strong choice for new drivers and families on a budget

Style Meets Technology

The Tiago wears a bold, sporty exterior, complete with LED headlamps, Smart DRLs, chrome-accented fog lamps, and a sleek dual-tone roof. At the back, boomerang-shaped taillights add a unique finish.

Inside, the cabin feels modern and well-equipped, with:

  • Dual-tone interiors

  • A digital instrument cluster

  • Plush melange seats

  • Segment-leading 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto

  • Automatic climate control

  • A & C USB charging ports

Measuring 3,767mm long and 1,940mm wide, it balances compact proportions with a spacious 242-litre boot, making it practical for city errands and weekend trips alike

Performance and Efficiency

Under the bonnet, the Tiago features a 1.2-litre Revotron three-cylinder petrol engine, producing 63kW and 113Nm. Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). Fuel efficiency is a highlight, with consumption rated at 5.0 L/100km, keeping running costs low without sacrificing performance

Model Line-Up and Pricing

The Tiago will be available in three derivatives:

  • Tata Tiago 1.2 XM MT – R184,900

  • Tata Tiago 1.2 XT MT – R209,900

  • Tata Tiago 1.2 XT AMT – R224,900

The range-topping XZ variant will follow, adding premium features like wireless Apple CarPlay, LED headlamps, cruise control, and 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

All models are sold with a 2-year/30,000km service plan and a 5-year/125,000km warranty

Final Thoughts

The launch of the Tata Tiago shows Tata’s commitment to delivering affordable, safe, and stylish cars for South African drivers. With its competitive pricing, impressive features, and strong safety record, the Tiago is set to shake up the entry-level hatchback market.
