The New Ford Territory: Sharper Styling and Smarter Tech for Mzansi’s Families

By Jack Dickson

The family favorite just got an upgrade, and it’s a serious contender for the best family SUV of 2026. We break down the new tech, the revised styling, and what we believe pricing will be like when it lands in showrooms.

Ford South Africa has officially confirmed that the refreshed Territory is heading to local showrooms in the coming weeks. Since its reintroduction, the Territory has become a vital player in the "Blue Oval" stable, serving as the perfect middle ground for families who need more space than a crossover but aren't quite ready for the full-sized Everest. For 2026, the updated model doubles down on this success with a more refined design, an expanded safety suite, and a stronger focus on the "always-on" digital experience that modern drivers demand.

Exterior: A Refreshed Global SUV Aesthetic

The new Ford Territory arrives with a refreshed exterior that aligns it more closely with Ford’s latest global SUV design language. The front end remains commanding, featuring a dominant grille and a sophisticated split-light arrangement with high-mount LED daytime running lights. To keep the look fresh for 2026, Ford has introduced two new colors to the palette, further enhancing its road presence. Depending on the trim, the vehicle sits on well-proportioned alloy wheels—ranging up to 19 inches on the Titanium—while maintaining a generous 190mm ground clearance that makes it as capable on a gravel road as it is in the suburban mall parking lot.

Interior: A Symmetrical Sanctuary with Enhanced Connectivity

Inside, the Territory continues to set the benchmark for interior roominess, particularly when it comes to class-leading rear legroom. The cabin has been updated to feel more contemporary and refined, with a focus on high-quality materials and a "symmetrical sanctuary" layout. For the first time, the Territory will offer FordPass App connectivity, allowing owners to interact with their vehicle remotely. The digital cockpit is a highlight, featuring a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that integrates seamlessly with a digital instrument cluster. Practicality remains a core strength, with a versatile boot that offers ample space for family gear, while higher trims enjoy the added luxury of a twin-panel panoramic moonroof.

Engine Specifications: Proven EcoBoost Performance

Under the hood, Ford has stuck with its winning formula: the proven 1.8-litre turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine. This powerplant delivers a balanced 138 kW of power and 318 Nm of torque, providing the effortless acceleration needed for a fully loaded family SUV. The engine is paired with a smooth and responsive seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), ensuring power is delivered efficiently to the front wheels. Drivers can also tailor their experience through multiple selectable drive modes, making the Territory just as comfortable crawling through mountain passes as it is cruising the N1.

South African Pricing and Peace of Mind

Ford has structured the new Territory range to offer a compelling value proposition across several specification grades, including the Ambiente, Trend, and the flagship Titanium. While final confirmed pricing for every individual trim will be detailed at launch, the range is expected to remain highly competitive in the mid-size SUV segment. Every new Territory comes backed by Ford’s comprehensive ownership package, which includes a four-year/120,000 km warranty and a six-year/90,000 km service plan. This combination of refreshed styling, smart technology, and a solid maintenance foundation ensures the Territory is ready to empower the next generation of dynamic South African families.
