Three Years of Omoda: SA’s Fastest-Growing Brand Hits 20,000 Sales Milestone

Omoda is officially celebrating its third anniversary in South Africa, marking a meteoric rise from a single-model newcomer in April 2023 to one of the most significant disruptors in the local automotive landscape. As the brand’s first market on the African continent, South Africa has served as a critical foundation for Omoda’s expansion. In just 36 months, the brand has grown from a 30-dealer startup into a powerhouse with 61 dedicated dealerships spread across every major metropolitan area in the country.



The C5: The Pillar of Local Success

The cornerstone of this growth has been the Omoda C5, the vehicle that introduced South Africans to the brand's "Art in Motion" design philosophy. To date, the C5 has recorded an impressive 15,219 sales locally, a figure that highlights its massive appeal among style-conscious and value-driven buyers. Omoda’s success hasn’t just been about sales volume, but also about listening to its customers. This feedback loop directly informed the development of the C5 X Series, which brought refined interior materials and transmission updates to the range, proving that the brand is committed to evolving alongside its South African audience.



Expanding the Stable: C7, C9, and the SHS Revolution

While the C5 started the fire, Omoda has rapidly expanded its stable to cater to the premium and eco-conscious segments. The lineup now includes the sophisticated C7 and the luxurious flagship C9, both of which have already made their mark—with the C7 being selected as a finalist for the 2026 South African Car of the Year (COTY) competition. A major focus for the brand’s future is the Super Hybrid System (SHS) technology. By introducing the C5 Hybrid alongside the C7 and C9 SHS models, Omoda is offering South Africans a high-performance, long-range alternative to traditional internal combustion engines, with some models boasting a range of over 1,000 km.



A Global Player with Deep Local Roots

Omoda’s rapid ascent in Mzansi is mirrored by its global performance. Part of the Chery Group, Omoda is now present in over 40 countries, including highly competitive markets like Spain, Mexico, and Australia. Locally, the brand’s footprint is supported by 57 to 61 dedicated dealerships (depending on the specific regional rollout), all backed by the Chery Group’s established parts warehouse and customer-care infrastructure. This "safety net" has been a key factor in winning over local buyers who might otherwise be wary of a newer nameplate.



Commitment to Quality and the Million-Kilometer Promise

One of the most compelling aspects of the Omoda ownership experience remains its industry-leading warranty. By offering a 10-year/1-million km engine warranty to the first owner, alongside comprehensive service and maintenance plans, Omoda has effectively removed the "newcomer risk" for South African motorists. As the brand enters its fourth year, the roadmap includes further expansion into the compact SUV space with the upcoming C4, ensuring that Omoda remains a dominant and high-growth fixture in our local passenger vehicle market for years to come.
