Impeccable driving comfort has always been the defining quality of Lexus' flagship sedan LS. This model helped create the brand 30 years ago. It is this commitment that has made significant progress in the ride quality of the new LS 2021. This is not achieved through a single innovation, but through the use of parts and components related to driving performance, comfortable driving and quietness. These changes go beyond the basic principles of fine-tuning the suspension, including tire adjustments, and even the materials and methods used to construct and decorate seats.

The fifth-generation LS launched in 2018 marked a leap in vehicle design and was the first to adopt Lexus’s GAL (Global Architecture-Luxury) platform. The direct advantages of this base include excellent chassis balance, low centre of gravity and higher body rigidity. New multi-link suspension geometry is adopted, which completely changes the adaptive variable suspension performance, from a simple nine-stage system to a nearly seamless 650-stage continuous damping control.
These elements have created Lexus's driving logo, which is a combination of Lexus's unique refinement, comfort and ride quality.
LS Chief Engineer Toshio Asahi explained: “We implement improvements year after year to ensure the continued development of LS as Lexus’ flagship product. With the driving performance of the new LS, I decided that we should focus on the "exquisite driving performance" that constitutes the DNA of the model. This is, in fact, the starting point of our brand. So we go back to basics and improve basic performance from scratch.
Of course, shock absorption is the key to comfort, ensuring that road imperfections are absorbed. The complex AVS system has been modified with new linear solenoid valves and expanded flow paths in the control valve. In addition, to reduce shock and vibration, the new LS is equipped with a fluid-filled engine mount and rear suspension bushings. In order to better control the body roll when turning, the front and rear stabilizer bars are thickened. The
tire is the only point of contact between the car and the road, so it can make an important contribution to driving comfort. LS will come standard with run-flat tires, which are inherently harder than traditional tires. Nevertheless, Lexus has been able to reduce its vertical spring stiffness to control the up and down movement of the sidewall. Even the composite material and internal structure of the tire have been adjusted to cope with high-frequency vibrations.
In turn, car seats also play a key role in the passenger experience. Some LS models will use the most advanced Lexus technology, with unprecedented multi-directional adjustability, built-in heating and ventilation, and a variety of precisely controlled massage functions. To improve comfort, the main task of the new model series is to feel when sitting, and it has better cushioning to better disperse body pressure. The development team conducted repeated tests and selected a new low-rebound polyurethane material ideal for the seat cushion, which will fit comfortably and fit the body, with consistent performance at all temperatures.
goes a step further, the interior seams of the seat cushions are deeper than before, this detail helps absorb vibrations and create a softer feel. Focusing on craftsmanship, the design of the new seams will not produce obvious wrinkles in the leather.
LS will introduce some subtle cosmetic changes, both inside and out. New models that have been launched and sold in select markets will debut locally in the second quarter of this year. The
