Launch Drive | The new Opel Mokka
With the second generation having sold over 1 Million units globally, Opel recently launched the all-new striking 3rd generation Mokka in Sunny Cape Town. The 3rd generation Mokka has won design awards and rightfully so. It features a bold German design with the new Opel Visor that covers the front face. The compact 4.15 metre long SUV will be offered in two derivatives; an Elegance model as well as the range-topping GS Line model.
Opel Vizor, with its unmistakable design. As on a full-face helmet, a protective visor covers the new front face of the Opel, combining in a single element the grille, the LED headlights and the new logo with the Opel lightning bolt.
Inside, it has been given A “digital detox” according to Opel, making it fully digital and features a 10-inch infotainment screen as well as a 12-inch digital driver display all on a curved display (watch out Samsung).
The entire Mokka range is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged pure tech engine that delivers 96kW/230nm of torque and it is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The drive feels extremely punchy and during our 200 kilometre trip out of Cape Town to and around Swartberg and then into Durbanville, it showed just how great it is at handling. Three driving modes are available, normal, sport & eco, and while we hardly used the eco mode, both the normal and sport modes felt somewhat frugal although we pushed the car to its maximum. Opel claims over 700kms on a single fuel tank and we think that might be accurate.

Peace of mind
Once over the excitement of the new Opel Mokka, the more rationally minded will be comforted by the standard three years/120,000km warranty and Roadside Assistance. Service intervals are every 12 months or 15,000km but covered by the Mokka’s four years/60,000km service plan.
