We recently had the privilege of spending an exhilarating amount of time with the much-anticipated Ford Everest Wildtrak, Ford's first-ever iteration of this off-road behemoth. Let us dive into an in-depth analysis of Wildtrak's design, performance, and overall driving experience during our time, capturing the essence of Ford's vision for the ultimate adventure SUV.

Exterior Design:

At first glance, the Ford Everest Wildtrak's imposing presence commands attention. Its rugged exterior is tastefully accented with a striking and aggressive front grille, giving it a distinctive flair that sets it apart from its competitors. Our test unit was coated in Arctic White with black accents throughout, including black mirror caps, black WILDTRAK and tailgate 4x4 scripts, black rear bumper and privacy glass to enhance the overall aesthetics. How would you tell this Everest is a Wildtrak? Well, Ford has placed ‘WILDTRAK’ lettering on the leading edge of the bonnet which is also finished in black and Ford’s new distinctive C-clamp headlights are unmistakable. The intimidating size of the Ford Everest Wildtrak and 20-inch alloy wheels evoke a sense of adventure and purpose, suggesting this vehicle is built to tackle any terrain confidently.

Interior:

Stepping into the cabin, I was immediately impressed by the refinement and attention to detail. The premium leather seats, generously spacious layout, Moon Roof and superior build quality created an ambience that combined comfort with a sense of adventure. The Wildtrak interior is further highlighted by beautiful yellow contrast stitching on the dashboard, steering wheel, gear shift lever and door panels, as well as yellow Wildtrak lettering on the seats. More than ample legroom and headroom is available in this seven-seater with smartly designed storage spaces and manual dials for climate and volume controls that further enhance the overall convenience for both driver and passengers.

Infotainment and Technology:

The Ford Everest Wildtrak boasts an impressive array of technological features that cater to the modern driver. The intuitive 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, complete with smartphone connectivity (wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) and built-in navigation, provides a seamless experience for users. The Ford Everest Wildtrak also has an impressive eight-speaker sound system and Ford`s Active Park Assist 2.0 with complete automated parallel parking. Additionally, the inclusion of advanced driver-assistance systems, such as Pre-Collision Assist, Reverse Brake Assist, Blind-Spot Monitoring and Adaptive Cruise Control, enhances safety and reduces the strain of long journeys.

Performance and Handling:

The real magic of the Ford Everest Wildtrak is unleashed when you hit the open road or venture off the beaten path. Equipped with a powerful and refined 3.0L V6 turbodiesel engine which produces 184kW and 600Nm paired to a 10-speed automatic gearbox, this SUV effortlessly conquers all terrains with its permanent four-wheel drive system. During our test period, the Wildtrak's suspension proved to be exceptionally adept at soaking up bumps and offering a comfortable ride on rough surfaces. The intelligent four-wheel-drive system and off-road modes instil confidence in drivers, making even the most challenging trails an enjoyable experience. The rotary drive modes selector consists of six settings: Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul, Slippery, Mud & Ruts, and Sand.

Conclusion:

The Ford Everest Wildtrak sets new benchmarks in the adventure SUV segment. It impresses with its robust design, refined interior, and exceptional off-road capabilities. This vehicle is more than just a means of transportation; it's a gateway to exciting journeys and unforgettable experiences.

The sheer size of the Wildtrak never made parking and city driving intimidating but rather encouraging. Additionally, the advanced technology and premium features evoke confidence behind the wheel. Although this might not be the most fuel-efficient SUV (we averaged 11l/100km during our time) it makes up for it with pure driving pleasure.

In conclusion, the first-ever Ford Everest Wildtrak is a testament to Ford's commitment to innovation and adventure. If you're seeking a formidable SUV that blends off-road prowess with luxury, the Wildtrak is undeniably worth considering. Embrace the call of the wild, and let the Ford Everest Wildtrak be your trusted companion on the road less travelled.
